The city plays host to famous events like the Jaipur Literature Festival, Kite Festival, Teej Festival, Shitla Mata Fair, Gangaur Festival, Chaksu Fair, Elephant Fair and Chhat ka Mela. In the recently concluded "Jaipur Literature Festival 2012," amongst other famous visitors, the city played host to famous International talk show queen Oprah Winfrey. Another famous festival is the "Elephant Fair." Held annualy in the month of March, this festival is celebrated on the eve of the color festival "Holi." Described as a unique event, elephant owners decorate their elephants in their best accessorries and join in the celebration. | Get lost in a puppet story: |
| Puppet shows were once used as an entertainment form only in royal courts. It has come a long way from how it originated. An important form of folk entertainment till date is the puppet show. No event is complete without a puppet show. The use of puppet show has spread outside the city and across. In its modern form, puppet shows has taken the shape of entertainment and learning experience both. These puppets are dressed attractively in colorful attires. The local name for puppet is "Kathputlis," kath for wood and putli for doll. Its not only the children but also the grownups who can get lost in the world of puppet shows. Legendary pairs Moomal-Mahendra and Dhola-Maru puppet are still popular in Jaipur. During an event, the puppet shows are regularly accompanied by musical instruments played by locals. With its many palaces and forts, the Amber Fort in Jaipur will leave you in awe of its breathtaking view. The fort which is carved out of white marble and red sandstone, epitomizes the essence of the richness of the city’s heritage. The fort was built by Raja Man Singh I in 1592.
